What is meant by sponsoring?
Definition: Sponsorship is the promotion of individuals, groups, clubs, teams, organizations or events by companies. Unlike patronage or donations, the goal is not altruistic or idealistic. Rather, the sponsor expects reciprocal benefits for his economic advantage - primarily advertising effects and image enhancement. There are many different forms of sponsorship.
How does sponsoring work?
A sponsoring agreement is only concluded if it is advantageous for both sides: The sponsor wants to address pre-identified target groups with specific content. To do this, it looks for suitable topics, events, people or organizations. The sponsor is interested in receiving something in return, either financially or in the form of goods or services, in order to realize his own plans. How sponsoring works can be explained using the example of a franchisee with a local market (sales area). For example, sponsoring the jersey or perimeter advertising of the local soccer club or supporting a sports event such as a gymnastics festival or city run can make sense for him. Ideas for advertising effectiveness also include loudspeaker announcements, ball donations, intermission shows, catering, VIP boxes and the lettering of club vehicles in the sponsor's corporate design. In addition to cash or non-cash benefits, a sponsorship agreement may also include reduced-price or free admission tickets or other benefits for employees or customers of the sponsor. In the case of support for individual athletes, items of clothing bearing the company logo and brand name or the equipment provided are presented in a way that attracts public attention. Many franchise systems use sponsorship as a means of corporate communication. Projects, individuals or institutions are supported on a national or local level at the franchisee's premises. According to the motto "Do good and talk about it", the public is made aware of the measures. In this way, sponsorship benefits everyone involved.
